Myth No. 7
Minnesota always finds a way to blow it in the fourth quarter
In some major, season-is-on-the-line moments, the Vikings have historically made fans weep. There is no way around that. Yet, something that happened 22, 11, or five years ago is not indicative of recent output.
Throughout their last 80 regular-season games, Minnesota is 45-0 when possessing a lead heading in the fourth quarter. Yes, an undefeated record, and the Vikings are the only perfect team in this parameter.
Moreover, Minnesota has not blown a lead over seven points at any point in a football game for over four years. They tried to do just that against the Saints in the 2017 playoffs, but Kai Forbath, Case Keenum, and Stefon Diggs had other plans.
To be fair, Minnesota did squander a fourth-quarter lead in the playoffs against the Seahawks in 2015. Former Vikings kicker Blair Walsh missed a gimme field goal that would have sent the team to the next round of the postseason.
Aside from that atrocity, Minnesota has not blown a fourth-quarter lead since Mike Zimmer’s rookie season.
