The Minnesota Vikings are still working to extend the talented running back.

For the Minnesota Vikings, their success in 2020 will likely depend on the performance of running back Dalvin Cook.

Cook is coming off an impressive 2019 campaign that saw him finish with 1,654 total yards and 13 touchdowns. The Vikings will be hoping for more of the same from him during the upcoming season.

Despite Cook’s outstanding production in 2019, Minnesota’s top running back is currently scheduled to only make around $1.3 million this season. Unsurprisingly, the Vikings and Cook are attempting to work out a new deal that will pay him closer to what he’s worth.

Minnesota Vikings reportedly limiting Dalvin Cook’s reps in camp

The guys over at Bleeding Purple recently went over Cook’s chat with the local Twin Cities media from last Friday and how he dealt with the multiple questions about his contract. Most people came away from this very impressed with the way the running back handled everything like a true professional.

As contract negotiations between Minnesota and their top running back continue, the team is reportedly keeping his practice reps at a minimum during this year’s training camp according to NFL Media’s Tom Pelisserro on Tuesday.

This is incredibly interesting since the Vikings are essentially protecting Cook’s health while they work out a new deal to improve his financial future. How many other teams in the NFL would do this? If any, the list would be very small.

But Minnesota knows how valuable Cook is to their team and to the future of their franchise. They want to make sure he remains healthy and doesn’t sustain a serious injury in an unnecessary training camp practice.

With Cook on the field, the Vikings are capable of beating just about anybody in the NFL. Regardless of the narrative surrounding the idea of paying running backs, he’s worth much more than the amount of money he’s currently due to make this year.
