4 CFL players who could land with the Minnesota Vikings
By Dean Jones
Willie Jefferson – DE
Willie Jefferson is a defensive end that plays with ruthless aggression on almost every down. This has been a standout feature to his incredible production in the CFL and he is another that might get his fair share of suitors in the NFL regarding a potential workout.
His first season as part of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers was extraordinary. Jefferson was a relentless force on the edge and it resulted in him getting a two-year contract extension in recognition of his outstanding efforts.
The Vikings lost Everson Griffen this year, but their pass-rushing options still appear to be strong. Jefferson would probably have his work cut out to make any sort of impression if Minnesota chose to bring him in. But he has plenty of likable traits to call upon despite being out of work at the present time.
Jefferson’s 16 pass deflections in 2019 were the most by a CFL defensive lineman in league history. This was backed up with 12 sacks thanks in no small part to an exceptional length that he uses to his advantage.
Jefferson was awarded the Most Outstanding Defensive Player as Winnipeg claimed their first championship since 1990. His confidence would be sky-high if he was given a chance to make an NFL roster. But it is hard to gauge just how he will cope with a substantial step-up in the level of play during a relatively short timeframe.
