5 things to know about Vikings rookie WR Justin Jefferson
By Dustin Baker
Jefferson is faster than Stefon Diggs and rookie Jerry Jeudy
Previously we mentioned Justin Jefferson’s knack for making catches, all 111 of them in 2019. But his speed is also one of the top facets of his skill set.
A heap of comparisons to Stefon Diggs will follow Jefferson early in his career and perhaps for several years to come. Out of the gate, however, the Vikings rookie receiver edges Diggs in the speed department.
Jefferson ran a 40-yard dash time in 4.43 seconds at this year’s NFL Scouting Combine whereas Diggs checked in at 4.46 seconds. It’s not an egregious differential, but it’s refreshing for Minnesota to know that their new asset has wheels that need no lubricant.
One of the most sought after wideouts in this year’s draft was former Alabama pass-catcher Jerry Jeudy, who was selected by the Denver Broncos with the 15th overall pick in the draft.
Jeudy figures to develop into a formidable target in Denver’s offense especially with the young, strong-armed Drew Lock firing him the ball. With all the hubbub surrounding Jeudy’s draft stock, it should be mentioned that Jefferson is faster than him too as the Broncos rookie receiver recorded a 40-yard dash time in 4.45 seconds earlier this year.
