The Vikings have brought plenty of safeties in for tryouts in recent days. This has led to some speculation that they might be looking to move Anthony Harris ahead of the new campaign.

Harris was unable to come to terms on a new contract with the Vikings during the offseason, but he’s on the roster for at least another year after signing his franchise tender worth $11.44 million. However, it appears highly unlikely Minnesota would use the tag on Harris again with the salary cap expected to come down considerably in 2021.

There has been plenty of interest in Harris throughout the offseason. The Vikings are likely holding out for the best possible compensation for one of their star players and they are right to do so.

This does not detract from what a precarious situation it is regarding Harris, who was one of the NFL’s best safeties last season. Another outstanding campaign would put him in an even stronger bargaining position during talks for his next contract and this is something that Minnesota might not be able to accommodate.

Harris’ current market value has him being able to potentially command an annual salary of $15.5 million on a five-year, $77.8 million deal according to Spotrac. This is money the Vikings just do not have going forward and they might just decide to part ways with the talented safety to get more draft capital in return.
