5 things to know about Vikings rookie CB Cameron Dantzler
By Dustin Baker
Dantzler is known for his length and strength
At this year’s NFL Scouting Combine, Cameron Dantzler had an underwhelming showing for speed. He recorded a 40-yard dash time of 4.64 seconds, which is not proclaimed as fast for an NFL corner by any stretch of the imagination.
About five weeks later, however, Dantzler ran the sprint again at his Pro Day, and there he improved to 40-time to 4.38 seconds. This did not outwardly help his draft stock on the whole, but it did allow for the Vikings to grab him later than they probably anticipated.
The scouting report on Dantzler is that he is tall (6-foot-2) and lanky (188 pounds). On paper, that stature does not vivify a picture of strength, but the young corner gets the “deceptively strong” adjectives assigned to him. And, he’ll need it.
If his impressive training camp is any indicator, Dantzler will see ample time on the field for Minnesota’s defense this season, and probably early on. He’s characterized as a better defender on the outside of the defense. If so, he could showcase his abilities against the likes of Julio Jones, A.J. Brown, and Davante Adams in 2020.
