Joe Thuney – OL

Pat Elflein appears to be getting one more chance to prove his worth as a starter with the Minnesota Vikings. Whether this is the right move or not remains to be seen. But if the organization wants a more stable presence on its interior protection, then Joe Thuney is an option worth considering.

The offensive lineman could be available from the New England Patriots if they receive a substantial offer for the player. Things are more uncertain at Foxborough than they have been for more than two decades following the departure of Tom Brady and a plethora of opt-outs on defense.

Bill Belichick would never disclose whether his team is planning a rebuild. He will not want to lose face, especially during the first year without his legendary signal-caller. But the fact remains that their chances of making the postseason appear slim despite the notable acquisition of 2015 NFL MVP Cam Newton.

Thuney is one of their most tradable assets and he would be a huge upgrade on anything the Vikings currently have to call upon. The former North Carolina State standout was at the top of his game in 2019, giving up one sack from 1,140 offensive snaps.

This earned Thuney a creditable 77.6 grade from Pro Football Focus. He is currently playing on the franchise tag and will make $14.78 million in 2020. But whether the Patriots are willing to give him a long-term deal will come down to what sort of direction they are going in after this season.
