Anthony Harris – S

Just like Dalvin Cook, Anthony Harris was hoping to land a new multi-year contract from the Vikings this offseason. Harris did end up getting a new deal from Minnesota this year, but it came in the form of the franchise tag and he will be a free agent again in 2021.

Even before free agency began this year, the Vikings safety expressed his desire to remain in purple multiple times. Minnesota is the only team Harris has played for since he entered the NFL in 2015 and it seems like his ideal scenario would be to just remain in the Twin Cities for his entire career.

With the trade for Yannick Ngakoue though, the Vikings probably won’t be able to afford to re-sign Harris in 2021. Especially if the safety has another impressive performance during the upcoming season like he did in 2019.

If Minnesota has to choose between paying Ngakoue, Cook, or Harris in 2021, the safety is always going to remain the third priority. Even Harris does play well this season, he will be turning 30-years-old in 2021 and the Vikings are going to look at Ngakoue and Cook as better investments since both of them are at least three years younger than the safety.

The chances of Harris remaining with Minnesota past 2020 already seemed pretty slim. But with the Vikings’ recent trade, the possibility of him returning to the team after the upcoming season appears to be even lower.
