The Detroit Lions might emerge as the top challengers to the Minnesota Vikings for the NFC North title this season.

The Minnesota Vikings have somehow put themselves in a position to challenge for the NFC North title in 2020 despite losing several veteran players this offseason.

It has been a busy period of player movement that culminated in the decision to trade for stud defensive end Yannick Ngakoue from the Jacksonville Jaguars.

This was yet another bold move that further enhanced the Vikings‘ prospects of another postseason berth and wrestling the divisional crown from the Green Bay Packers.

Minnesota’s front office deserves a tremendous amount of credit for giving this current group every chance of succeeding this year. But it is hard to gauge just how well the new recruits will blend in until we actually see them on the field in a competitive setting.

The NFC North looks set to be highly competitive once again next season. The Packers will be looking to go one better in 2020 after falling narrowly short in their pursuit of a Super Bowl appearance last season. But whether the Chicago Bears can bounce back after a disappointing 2019 campaign remains to be seen.

One team that could end up being the Vikings’ biggest challenger for the divisional crown is the Detroit Lions. That might seem like a stretch on the outside looking in, but they are quietly fancied to make significant improvements on their dismal 3-12-1 record last time out.

Let’s go over a few reasons why the Lions could actually have a serious chance of winning the NFC North in 2020, which could present a problem for Minnesota.
