Defensive front strength

Another area that might be in line for a giant leap forward in terms of production with the Lions is their defensive front. This unit was porous in 2019, which played a leading role in their eventual demise. But they should be far more resolute next season and they should hold their own against a suspect Vikings offensive line.

Defensive end Romeo Okwara is set to get the chance to showcase his talent from a starting position in 2020. He will be joined by his brother Julian, who was a draft pick by Detroit this spring and someone who should be a nice option to have in the rotation.

Both Danny Shelton and Nick Williams have shown promise from the defensive tackle spot for the Lions. Together they should be able to shore up Detroit’s run defense and allow the other pass-rushing playmakers around them more space in which to operate.

Trey Flowers is the most accomplished lineman from an experience perspective on the Lions roster. The two-time Super Bowl champion followed head coach Matt Patricia from the New England Patriots and his winning mentality is something that is going to be crucial for this group next season.

Minnesota showed some improvements in their protection in 2019. But they do have some uncertainty regarding their interior options heading into the campaign.
