The roster has been trimmed but what other free agents might the Minnesota Vikings explore?

The Minnesota Vikings roster was pruned to 53 men as Week 1 versus the Green Bay Packers at U.S. Bank Stadium is afoot. It’s tempting to put a bow on this headcount of 53 individuals and trudge forward with a mindset of finality.

But things change.

The roster is indeed set now, but it will experience a whirlwind of juxtaposition between now and January. That could start as soon as today. Every other NFL team released some 30-40 players, so a buffet of options is now available to teams with flexible strategies and cap dollars. The Vikings have a smidgen of cap space left after the unforeseen trade that landed pass-rusher Yannick Ngakoue. The trade birthed a pairing of defensive end, Danielle Hunter, with another fierce lineman in Ngakoue. Almost nobody [other than NFC North rivals] objected to the transaction.

Rest assured, the Vikings, like 31 other organizations, will forage the newly-fattened waiver wire. Minnesota will just have to do it with the budget of an idealistic, cash-strapped college student.

As for surprise roster cuts, Minnesota offered few to none. This preseason was marred by the worldwide pandemic and performance sample-sizes displayed by youngsters were nominal. The only honorable mention as a surprise cut was second-year wideout, Alexander Hollins. The 23-year-old had an energetic camp and had the perk of incumbency to his advantage. Unfortunately, he was released, and it is unknown if he will remain with Minnesota or join another franchise.

Should the Vikings immediately look to tinker with the roster, these are six realistic options for free agents that could make an impact.
