No, the Vikings do not have a desperate need at linebacker. Contrarily, it is one of their strongest positional spots on the depth chart. Anthony Barr, Troy Dye, Eric Kendricks, Hardy Nickerson Jr., Eric Wilson are the team’s 2020 linebackers with four-year veteran Ben Gedeon on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

If Minnesota makes no moves at the linebacker position, they will embark on the 2020 campaign sitting pretty. However, former Denver Broncos linebacker Todd Davis would serve as an immediate depth upgrade over Troy Dye or Hardy Nickerson Jr. Davis might even be a better football player than the forecasted starter, Eric Wilson.

Davis is not a pass-covering demon, but he is a remarkable tackler. Since 2018, he has registered 248 combined tackles, which is, believe it or not, the ninth-most in all of the NFL. In any given week during an NFL season, at least 100 linebackers will start games. The idea that the NFL’s ninth-most prolific tackler in the last two seasons is available is very perplexing.
