Minnesota Vikings Unsung Heroes: Week 1 vs. the Green Bay Packers
By Luke Parrish
Offensive Unsung Hero from Week 1:
Bisi Johnson – WR
Bisi Johnson showed up when Kirk Cousins looked his way on Sunday. Johnson hauled in three catches for 56 yards, leading the team with an average of 18.7 yards per reception. Cousins only completed 19 passes, but Johnson was a reliable secondary weapon in the passing game.
While rookie receiver Justin Jefferson struggled to get going in the offense during his first-ever NFL appearance, Cousins continued to look for his familiar faces on Sunday. Adam Thielen stole the show with six grabs for 110 yards and two scores, but Johnson was a very adequate complement.
Alexander Mattison is another name to consider for this, but his expectations are a bit more pronounced than Johnson. As fans clamor for Jefferson to get involved, Johnson has stayed true to himself and he’s been a solid target for Cousins.
It will be interesting to see what the Vikings do moving forward as they hope to control more of the clock. Obviously, the high expectations for Jefferson will make for some interesting situations throughout the year as well. For now though, Johnson seems to be settled as the team’s second wide receiver.
