Irv Smtih Jr. – TE

Maybe this is more a fault of offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak, but Irv Smith Jr. was basically a no-show in the Vikings first game of the 2020 season. He only had one target on the day and that was an 11-yard reception that happened late in the second half.

Not using Smith more was a major missed opportunity for Minnesota’s offense. Kirk Cousins seemed locked onto Adam Thielen for the majority of the game and while Thielen came through, Smith could’ve been utilized earlier in the contest to create some explosive plays and open things up more in the passing game.

This is supposed to be the season where Smith breaks out. Fans were itching to see him implemented into the passing game early in the year and for him to only get one target in Week 1 was a major disappointment.

Obviously the way the game went cut into Smith’s workload and Kubiak’s offensive attack, especially during the first half when the Vikings rarely had the ball. But if the team wants to turn things around in Week 2, getting Smith more involved in the passing game is a great place to start.
