The Colts running game will be primed for a big day

While the headlines went to Aaron Rodgers, the Packers were able to set the stage against the Vikings last Sunday by establishing their running game.

Although it didn’t lead to a big play, Green Bay was able to get consistent gains on the ground from Aaron Jones and Jamal Williams that helped control the time of possession. That prevented Minnesota’s offense from getting in a rhythm and holding possession for nearly 40 minutes.

Looking ahead, there’s a chance the Colts could produce similar results against the Vikings on Sunday. Indianapolis lost Marlon Mack to a torn Achilles in Week 1, but it opens the door for second-round pick Jonathan Taylor and Nyheim Hines, who had two touchdowns in last week’s loss.

There’s a good chance the Colts won’t be looking to have Philip Rivers throw 46 times in Week 2, so head coach Frank Reich will attempt to establish a ground-and-pound approach early. If Indianapolis can have the same success as the Packers, it could lead to another catchup effort from Minnesota offensively and have the Colts dictate the game.
