Cousins and Rivers will combine for 700 passing yards

If you’re looking for a shootout, you’ve come to the right place. For all the flaws that Philip Rivers and Kirk Cousins have had over their careers, both quarterbacks can light up the scoreboard when given the opportunity.

On Sunday, both Rivers and Cousins will have plenty of chances to just that as they face a pair of suspect secondaries that could lead to big stats.

For Rivers, he’ll be going up against a Vikings secondary that was abused by Aaron Rodgers in Week 1. Mike Hughes, Cameron Dantzler, and Holton Hill all gave up at least 70 yards and a touchdown against the Packers and rookie Jeff Gladney may have a bigger role on Sunday with Dantzler already being ruled out.

For Cousins, the Colts are a team that’s based more off zone coverage than man-to-man. While we already mentioned that it would be a big boost for Irv Smith Jr., it could also mean good things for Adam Thielen, who is going up against old friend Xavier Rhodes. Justin Jefferson could also see some opportunities in the slot while Bisi Johnson matches up with Rock Ya-Sin.

Even if both coaches want to rely on the run, there may be a time where they have to let their quarterbacks take control of the game. That could mean tons of success through the air for both sides with the final score determined by which quarterback avoids the fatal mistake.
