Minnesota has no chance of making the playoffs

So for the first time since 2013, the Vikings have started their season with two-straight losses. This is the 10th time since 1970 that Minnesota has walked off the field in Week 2 with an 0-2 record.

Of the previous nine times that the Vikings have started their schedule with two losses, they’ve only been able to turn things around and earn a spot in the playoffs once (2008). Obviously Minnesota hasn’t been eliminated from postseason contention yet, but their start to the year isn’t going to help their playoff chances.

Something that could work in the Vikings’ favor this season is the fact that there is an extra playoff spot in each conference. For the first time in NFL history, seven teams from each conference will get a chance to battle in the postseason this year.

So how many teams from the recent past have started 0-2 and finished among the top seven in their conference? Well, since 2017, four teams who have started their seasons with two straight-losses have gone on to finish seventh or better in their conference.

The difficulty level to make the playoffs is definitely higher for Minnesota after falling to the Colts on Sunday. But it’s still too early to give up on the Vikings missing out on the postseason this year.
