Defensive MVP – Honorable Mentions

Thankfully, there wasn’t a downpour of points on the Vikings defense in Week 2, but there still wasn’t a lot to love about what the team was doing. The Colts racked up 151 yards on the ground and 214 through the air while dominating the time of possession once again.

Still, there were some good things to come out of the defense during this game and here are some of the players who weren’t quite the defensive MVP, but deserve some recognition anyway.

Yannick Ngakoue – DE

The new arrival in Minnesota seemed to disappear in Week 1 against the Packers, but he finally arrived during this game. Ngakoue earned his first sack wearing a purple and gold jersey and he registered two hits on Philip Rivers on the day.

Eric Wilson – LB

Wilson was asked to do a lot in this game, but he was still able to be somewhat effective in his roles. The linebacker tied for second with seven total tackles on the day (four solo). One of those takedowns was for a loss while he added a pass defense when dropping back in coverage, netting an interception.

Harrison Smith – S

Remember that interception from Wilson that was discussed earlier? Well, it came from a play where Smith punched the ball out of a Colts receiver’s hands and allowed the linebacker to snag it out of the air. The safety added six tackles on the day, three of those being solo efforts.
