5 Titans players the Vikings should worry about in Week 3
By Nik Edlund
Jonnu Smith – TE
Of all the players on the Titans roster, Jonnu Smith is probably the one who could hurt the Vikings the most this Sunday.
He’s not a household name like Derrick Henry or even Ryan Tannehill, but the light has come on for the fourth-year tight end and he already has three touchdowns on the season.
Minnesota is coming off a game where they just allowed five receptions and 111 receiving yards to the Colts backup tight end, Mo Alie-Cox. That had a lot to do with blown coverages and Eric Wilson looking like he had no idea it was his job to cover the tight end. While Cox is about three inches taller than Smith, he lacks the explosive element that Smith has to his game.
This cat can catch a little screen and he then has the wheels to take it to the house. He’s exceptional after the catch and he is extremely tough to bring down.
With Tennessee receiver A.J. Brown likely out this Sunday, Smith could very well be Tannehill’s No. 1 target. He’s sitting on a huge day and one where he could have multiple scores if the Vikings don’t have a plan in place to contain him or there’s confusion on who is supposed to cover him.
