Top-heavy at the WR position

The Titans selected wideout A.J. Brown in the second round of the 2019 NFL draft from the University of Mississippi. So far, he’s been terrific. Brown accrued 1,051 receiving yards during his first season and eight touchdowns to show for it. In 2020, he’s been hampered by a knee injury, and his status for this Sunday is jeopardy.

After Brown on the depth chart, the Titans have a talent drop-off. Corey Davis, Adam Humphries, and Nate Westbrook round out the wide receiver room. These men are decent football players but are not Brown’s level.

Does that remind you of anything? It should, at least for now. The Vikings showcase Adam Thielen as their pass-catching showstopper. Thielen has been targeted profusely in the early days of life without Stefon Diggs. Waiting in the wings to eventually catch Kirk Cousins’ passes are rookies Justin Jefferson, Bisi Johnson, and former Titan, Tajae Sharpe.

If the Vikings can neutralize Brown (if he plays), they can probably frustrate Ryan Tannehill. Should the Titans clamp down on Thielen, Cousins, too, could endure another long afternoon.
