Clay Matthews – LB

Most Vikings fans would probably choose to eat a bag of garbage before rooting for Clay Matthews in a purple jersey. But their feelings might change if Matthews can help improve Minnesota’s pass rush.

In their three matchups this year, the Vikings haven’t had Danielle Hunter on the field and their top blitzing linebacker, Anthony Barr, only lasted a game and a half before he suffered a season-ending injury.

In three games, Minnesota has racked up a grand total of three sacks. The Vikings haven’t been able to generate much of a pass rush this year and it’s led to opposing quarterbacks carving up their inexperienced secondary.

During the prime of his career with the Green Bay Packers, Matthews was one of the top pass rushers in the NFL. His defensive coordinator for most of his tenure with the Packers was Dom Capers, who is now a defensive assistant for Minnesota.

Matthews is now 34-years-old and even though he’s not the unstoppable pass rusher that he once was, he’s still got some juice left his tank as he racked up eight sacks in 13 games with the Los Angeles Rams last season.

If there is anyone who knows how to get the most out of Matthews, it’s Capers. The Vikings need to figure something out to improve their pass rush and their former nemesis could be the answer to their problems.
