Defensive MVP – Honorable Mentions

The Minnesota Vikings were making a habit of giving up a lot of points to their opposition this season, but the 23 points Deshaun Watson and his teammates put on the board were the lowest so far for the purple and gold defense.

Even with that, it was hard to watch the defense allow the Texans to march down the field on their final drive and put themselves in scoring position at the end of the game. The pass rush and corners need to get on the same page, and having Harrison Smith ejected only made those issues more apparent.

Eric Wilson – LB

The loss of Anthony Barr and Ben Gedeon has made the Vikings defense look a little different. Still, Minnesota proved they made the right decision tagging Eric Wilson because he was everywhere on Sunday, making tackles and playing the field well laterally. He had nine tackles on the day and split a tackle for a loss.

Yannick Ngakoue – DE

The high-profile addition to Minnesota’s defense is starting to settle into his role, getting another sack this week to bring his season total to three. In total, Yannick Ngakoue had five tackles to prove that he is much more than a one-trick pony as a pass rusher.

D.J. Wonnum – DE

If you squint really hard, D.J. Wonnum might look like Danielle Hunter. The rookie pass rusher had an unblocked run at Watson and took the quarterback down. But it is his athletic ability and strong frame that should have Vikings fans excited about his future. Wonnum added one other tackle on Sunday as a rotational/situational pass rusher.
