Dru Samia – RG

There was hope when Dru Samia took over for Pat Elflein back in Week 2 that he’d be an upgrade over the struggling veteran. While he was clearly anything but that, the hope then shifted to Samia improving with each consecutive start. That definitely hasn’t happened either.

Samia continues to struggle with every game he plays in and it can be argued that he’s actually gotten worse. He is continuously manhandled by opposing defensive linemen and he is either tossed to the ground or easily moved out of the way, as these big, beefy defenders come pummeling down on Kirk Cousins.

If there’s a bright spot for Samia, it’s that he occasionally makes a decent block in the running game. Other than that, he’s been a turnstile on the line. This was the case against the Texans, as Samia was at fault for plenty of quarterback pressures including one to almost former Viking P.J. Hall.

It’s discouraging that Samia has failed to show any sign of improvement. Either he is just physically outmatched or he can’t take the coaching and apply it to the field. Whatever the case may be, Samia’s time as a starter has to be wearing short.
