MVP of the First Quarter

Dalvin Cook – RB

This has been an amazing year for Dalvin Cook. Following fears that the running back might hold out for a new contract earlier this year, the Vikings signed Cook to a long-term deal and it is paying dividends so far for the team’s offense.

Minnesota’s star running back has been an absolute terror to opposing defenses, running through tackles, shifting past defenders, and stiff-arming his way into the end zone. His style of play is a blend of brutality and agility, making him one of the best rushers in the NFL.

So far, the Vikings haven’t been able to get Cook involved enough in the passing game. Through four weeks, the Minnesota running back only has seven catches for 40 yards. But that number could skyrocket if the offensive line can figure out how to properly execute a screen.

If projected out to a 16 game season, Cook is on pace for 1,696 rushing yards with 24 touchdowns to go with 160 receiving yards. The league’s current leader in yards on the ground and rushing touchdowns should continue to be a force to be reckoned with this year.

Do you agree with these first-quarter awards? If not, who do you think should earn more recognition for their play through the first four weeks of the season? Let us know in the comments.
