Cameron Dantzler – CB

It’s hard to put too much blame on young Cameron Dantzler for his performance on Sunday against the Seahawks. This game was only his third career start and he had a tough draw having to cover DK Metcalf for the majority of the game.

The young cover man actually did quite well against the mammoth and physically imposing pass catcher, but the Minnesota rookie collapsed when it mattered most.

During the Seahawks’ final drive down the field with under a minute left, Metcalf got the best of Dantzler. It was 4th-and-10 and a stop would’ve sealed the win for the Vikings. Wilson dropped back and had time to throw, he let it fly and there was Metcalf wide open with Dantzler about five apart from him.

Not only was the rookie corner five yards away from Metcalf, but he also turned away from the intended target and he was facing the wrong direction. Dantzler’s mental lapse came at the worst possible time.

Dantzler can chalk this up to a learning experience and promise his fellow cover men that this won’t happen again. He’s a talented young player who has a promising future, but there will be some hiccups in his maturation process and unfortunately for the Vikings, it came at a time when they needed him to make a play in the worst way.
