Cousins is on the cusp of a breakout game

This could come at any time and against the Falcons would be an apropos time for it. Atlanta has struggled mightily on defense (more on that later), and Cousins’ ordinarily upper-echelon statline has floundered through five games.

Based on Cousins’ usually steady performance, the 32-year-old is due for a string of games that gives him a by-the-bootstraps return to prosperity. In 2019, the Vikings quarterback tossed 26 touchdowns to six interceptions. This year, he’s accounted for eight touchdowns to seven picks. He should, in theory, be done throwing the ball to the other team for a while if history is any indicator.

This game is at home, Atlanta has a leaky defense, a rookie pass-catcher in Justin Jefferson is coming into his own, and the Falcons flat-out aren’t very good. It has all the ingredients to be a game that Cousins throws for 250+ yards and three touchdowns.

Hopefully his offensive line gives him some time to make the prophecy come to fruition.
