Zimmer’s success against Ryan

Four times Matt Ryan has faced Zimmer-led Vikings teams. Four times Ryan has lost.

Ryan is generally a quarterback that gets the best of opposing defenses. Or, at the very least, he holds his own. Against the Vikings in the last six years, his performance markedly dips. He’s thrown six touchdowns to six interceptions versus the Vikings since 2014 on his way to an 81.6 passer rating. In four games by Ryan’s standards, that’s not very many touchdowns passes and a hell of a lot of interceptions.

This is a trend for Mike Zimmer. When playing top-notch signal-callers not named Russell Wilson, the designed schemes he orchestrates usually flummox these otherwise terrific quarterbacks. Examples that come to mind are Drew Brees, Matthew Stafford, pre-2020 Carson Wentz, and Aaron Rodgers (to an extent).

Zimmer has Matt Ryan and the Falcons number, and that propensity will once again result in a Vikings win.
