Kirk Cousins
Due to the terms of his contract, Kirk Cousins will likely be back as the Vikings starting quarterback for the 2021 season. It’s not the answer people want to hear, but it’s the mess Minnesota put themselves in when they extended him earlier this year.
The only way the Vikings can get rid of Cousins in 2021 without him counting against the team’s salary cap is if they find a way to trade him. If he keeps playing like he currently is, Minnesota probably isn’t going to have much luck finding a trade partner.
So if the Vikings continue to stink this season and they end up with a top-10 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, then they will likely select a new quarterback and have him begin his rookie year on the bench behind Cousins. Minnesota would probably like to follow what the Kansas City Chiefs did with Patrick Mahomes and Alex Smith in 2017.
Unless the Vikings magical salary cap wizards can figure out a way to get rid of Cousins without it resulting in the team losing cap space, he’ll likely be on the team’s roster in 2021.
Chance he’s Minnesota’s Starting QB in 2021: 60 percent
