Justin Fields (Ohio State)

If the Vikings don’t end up with the first-overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Justin Fields could be the consolation prize. Which, in a decade, could potentially turn out to be the better selection from next year’s draft.

Fields hasn’t played a game yet this year as he’s still waiting for Ohio State’s season to begin, but he’s coming off a very impressive 2019 campaign. Last season, the Ohio State quarterback completed 67.2 percent of his passes for 3,273 yards, 41 touchdowns, and three interceptions while also rushing for 484 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Fields is more in the mold of the modern-day NFL passer. He can hurt you deep with his arm and make you look silly in the open-field when he takes off to run. Fields is also the type of quarterback who could be capable of being a Day 1 starter at the pro-level depending on where he lands.

As wonderful as it would be for Minnesota to draft Fields in 2021, he will also probably be off of the board by the time it comes for them to make their first selection. Even if the Vikings land the No. 5 pick in next year’s draft, the Ohio State quarterback could be gone after the second or third selection.
