Jimmy Garoppolo (San Francisco 49ers)

The San Francisco 49ers are one of the few teams that could actually be interested in trading for Kirk Cousins in 2021. There are a number of reasons why a trade between the Vikings and 49ers could happen next year and one of the main ones has to do with San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan.

Cousins and Shanahan have worked together in the past during their time in Washington and the 49ers head coach has admitted that he wanted his team to sign the current Minnesota quarterback before San Francisco ended up trading for Jimmy Garoppolo.

Garoppolo has been solid in his time with the 49ers, but some have wondered how much longer he will last with his current team.

If Cousins goes on the trade block after this season, is Shanahan going to try and convince San Francisco’s front office to trade for him? If he does, could a deal involve a swap of each team’s starting quarterback?

A trade like this would leave the Vikings with a similar talent to Cousins under center, but Garoppolo has a much more team-friendly contract. A deal like this would also allow Minnesota to still select their quarterback of the future in next year’s NFL Draft.
