3 reasons the Vikings trading Yannick Ngakoue makes no sense
By Dean Jones
Ngakoue’s production
One would be hard-pressed to find a more impressive member of the Minnesota Vikings’ defense than Yannick Ngakoue this season. The edge rusher took a couple of games to settle into his stride, but he has wreaked havoc over his last few outings to further enhance his growing reputation.
This production is going to be immensely hard to replace, especially with Danielle Hunter going on IR. Ngakoue is almost unblockable at the top of his game and his arrival in Baltimore has the potential to give them that extra spark in a bid to get their hands on another Super Bowl.
Ngakoue’s impact on the field goes way past his impressive stats. It’s hard to imagine where the Vikings’ defensive front would be without him through six games.
But we won’t have to wait long to find out.
Bringing Ngakoue to Minnesota was a gamble, one that eventually saw Rick Spielman fold his hand with the first half of the season yet to be concluded. This has already cost them what is probably going to be a high-end second-round selection and although the general manager might not be saying it out loud, the Vikings appear headed for a complete rebuild without one of the NFL’s most gifted edge rushers.
Strap yourselves in, Vikings fans. It is going to be a rocky few months ahead.
