The Baltimore Ravens reportedly asked about the availability of the Minnesota Vikings receiver.
Following their most recent loss to the Atlanta Falcons, the Minnesota Vikings came to the realization that a 1-5 start to the season probably isn’t going to result in a trip to the playoffs for the second year in a row.
So in an effort to give some of their younger players some valuable snaps this season, the Vikings made the decision to trade defensive end Yannick Ngakoue to the Baltimore Ravens. Ngakoue was acquired by Minnesota in August, but the team clearly didn’t think the pass rusher was the best fit for their plans moving forward.
During the trade negotiations between the Vikings and Ravens, Ngakoue apparently wasn’t the only player who was discussed.
Baltimore Ravens reportedly inquired about multiple Minnesota Vikings players
Things have gone much differently for Baltimore this season compared to Minnesota. While the Vikings are hanging out near the bottom of the league, the Ravens are among the best teams in the NFL with a 5-1 record after their first six games.
In an effort to give their team a better chance to contend for a championship this year, Baltimore’s front office has been looking for ways to improve their roster before the trade deadline. The Ravens ended up acquiring Ngakoue from Minnesota, but the AFC North team was reportedly interested in more Vikings players than just the young pass rusher.
According to CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora, Baltimore reportedly asked the Vikings about what it would cost to work out a deal for Irv Smith Jr. or Adam Thielen.
Thielen has been a part of multiple trade rumors recently while Smith hasn’t really been thought of as a player Minnesota would be willing to send elsewhere. The Ravens, obviously, weren’t able to acquire either pass-catcher and their failure to do so explains why they recently signed free-agent wide receiver Dez Bryant.
For now, Thielen is still a member of the Vikings. But will the talented receiver still be on Minnesota’s roster after next week’s trade deadline?
