Stephon Gilmore – CB (New England Patriots)

Good luck predicting who the Vikings starting corners will be when they take the field for their next game against the Detroit Lions. Thanks to injuries and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Minnesota has had to utilize a different combination of corners in just about each of their seven matchups this season.

Currently, the Vikings are relying on a lot of youth and inexperience in their secondary and it has resulted in them having one of the NFL’s worst pass defenses this year.

There’s been a rumor floating around recently that the New England Patriots could be looking to trade last season’s NFL Defensive Player of the Year, Stephon Gilmore.

Now, most have assumed this is nothing more than a rumor. But if Gilmore is actually available, it wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world for Minnesota to call and see what it would take to acquire him.

Gilmore hasn’t been playing like the reigning Defensive Player of the Year so far this season, but he would still be a tremendous upgrade over any corner the Vikings currently have on their roster.

If New England has actually made the veteran cornerback available, the rumor is that it would potentially take a first or second-round draft pick to acquire him according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss. That is a price tag that would probably end up being too high for Minnesota, especially since they don’t even have a second-round pick to offer right now.
