Minnesota Vikings Unsung Heroes: Week 9 vs. the Detroit Lions
By Luke Parrish
Defensive Unsung Hero from Week 9:
Chris Jones – CB
The Vikings entered the week with several question marks at cornerback. Chris Jones was added off of waivers from the Lions recently and he was asked to make an immediate impact.
Detroit quarterback Matthew Stafford was limited most of the afternoon, as was backup Chase Daniel, and Minnesota’s defensive backs deserve a pat on the back.
With no idea of who would play meaningful snaps all week in practice, Jones stepped up to the plate and helped the young Vikings secondary make some plays. Other than a questionable pass interference call, Jones played a strong game, and he was never on the wrong end of a big play.
Minnesota currently has little experience at cornerback, especially with injuries across the board. Cameron Dantzler was out for Sunday’s game after leaving early last week with a neck injury, but that did not stop the Vikings from finding contributions elsewhere against the Lions.
For a guy coming off of waivers and having no chemistry with his new teammates, Jones had a nice performance. Kudos to him on an impressive showing in his Vikings debut.
