Mike Boone – RB
The Vikings were the victims of an extremely rare occurrence this past Sunday against the Lions. Minnesota had two punts blocked and they were lucky that both of those plays didn’t result in points to turn the game in Detroit’s favor.
While the Vikings special teams coordinator Marwan Maalouf should shoulder much of the blame as that’s his cup of tea, the players need to be held accountable as well. During the first punt block, one player was directly at fault and that was Mike Boone.
Boone was either sleeping on the play, or he was just overpowered by Lions linebacker Jason Cabinda. The dude plowed right through Boone on his way to crushing helpless Minnesota punter Britton Colquitt.
This could’ve been a play that turned the tide of the game, but the Vikings defense held strong and saved Boone from a week full of regret.
Boone is Minnesota’s third-string running back and he isn’t going to get a lot of looks when it comes to offense unless there’s an injury. He has to make the most out of any type of opportunity he gets on the field whether that is blocking for a punt or carrying the ball.
This was an embarrassing play for Boone and an uncharacteristic one. He will certainly be working extra hard in practice moving forward to ensure that this disappointing performance doesn’t happen again.
