Minnesota Vikings MVPs: Week 9 vs. the Detroit Lions
By Adam Carlson
Offensive MVP
Dalvin Cook – RB
It really couldn’t be anyone else. Sure, Dalvin Cook had some help on the scoreboard thanks to touchdown passes from Kirk Cousins to Irv Smith Jr. and Ameer Abdullah, but most of the damage in this game was routed directly through the team’s star running back.
Any time a running back gains over 200 yards on the ground, that’s the sign of a great game. Cook accomplished that feat by accumulating 206 yards on only 22 carries with two touchdowns. A good chunk of that yardage was on a beautiful 70-yard touchdown run.
But Cook wasn’t done there. He also had two passes thrown his way from Cousins and he reeled them both in to add another 46 yards to his offensive output, putting him at 272 yards for the day against the Lions defense.
To put things in perspective, the Vikings offense as a whole had 487 yards, meaning that about 56 percent of the team’s total yardage went through Cook on Sunday. Fans can’t complain about those results at all.
