CHICAGO, IL – OCTOBER 09: Quarterback Sam Bradford – Minnesota Vikings

5. It’s been a long time since the Vikings won in Chicago

Foremost, the Vikings have not toppled the Bears in four straight tries. There is a tiny asterisk for this as Minnesota rested starters in Week 17 of last year’s contest against Chicago (playoff seeding made the game largely irrelevant). Had the Vikings played their starters in that matchup, the outcome would have varied.

Regardless, Mike Zimmer’s team has not won at Chicago since 2017 — also a Monday night game. It was the last game quarterback Sam Bradford would take a snap for the Vikings. It was also the final time to date that Minnesota won a game via walk-off field goal.

A Monday night victory has not found its way to the Vikings win column since. There are a lot of interesting tidbits about that 2017 game at Soldier Field.

As a matter of historical poetry or gridiron balance, the Vikings are probably due to snatch a victory at Soldier Field. For too long, the Minnesota Vikings have played poorly in Chicago.

Maybe the pandemic season is the time and place to do just that.
