Darnell Mooney – WR

Darnell Mooney may be a surprise here, but he’s having a breakout rookie season, and he is someone the Vikings will need to be aware of.

Mooney is only 5-foot-10 and 176 pounds dripping wet, but he’s got blazing speed. He has 31 receptions on the season for 348 yards and two touchdowns. This guy can get deep and it shows in the stats, as his longest reception has gone for 50 yards.

Minnesota has been burnt this year by small, but fast, types of receivers. Kalif Raymond of the Tennessee Titans is a similar type of player to Mooney and he went off for 118 yards on three receptions back in Week 3 against the Vikings.

It could be Jeff Gladney tasked to cover this guy and if he is, he’d be wise to give Mooney an extra few yards of cushion. Monday’s game will likely be a low scoring matchup and if Mooney is allowed to get over the top and make a big play that goes for six or sets up a field goal, it could be the difference in the result.

Allen Robinson and the defense get all the attention when the Vikings and Bears face off. However, this speedy rookie is an overlooked part of Chicago’s offense and one who could have a breakout performance on a national stage that puts his name on the tongue of even the most casual of fans. Minnesota and their cornerbacks, in particular, need to make sure that doesn’t happen.
