Lamb vs. Gladney will be a must-watch matchup

There aren’t many things in football that are better than a wide receiver and a cornerback going at it. While Jeff Gladney and CeeDee Lamb are both rookies, this matchup could be one that determines who gets the upper hand in this game.

This is because Lamb and Gladney have a history dating back to their college games. While Gladney starred at TCU, Lamb was dominating defenses as part of a high-powered Oklahoma team. Both resumes helped propel them to first-round selections in last April’s draft, but the matchups between the two were entertaining.

In 2018, Lamb got the better of Gladney even as the two players moved into the slot. Lamb hung five catches and 91 yards on TCU in the first matchup. But when the two renewed acquaintances, Gladney helped hold Lamb to two catches on 18 yards in the second game.

While their past is interesting, so is Gladney’s play as of late. Since the Vikings came off of their bye in Week 7, Gladney has allowed just 0.73 yards per route run in the slot. That number is seventh among qualifying corners in the NFL and it should mean he will see plenty of Lamb, who is second in the league this year with 557 yards from the slot.

Cooper and Gallup are names to watch on Sunday, but Gladney battling with Lamb could be a treat for years to come.
