Minnesota picking Cousins over Teddy was the right call

The 2018 offseason will go down as one of the most important periods of time in Vikings history. This was when Minnesota had to figure out who was going to be their starting quarterback for the upcoming season and they eventually decided on Kirk Cousins.

Teddy Bridgewater was one of the possible candidates for the job after spending the first four years of his NFL career with the Vikings. But Minnesota had major concerns about Bridgewater’s surgically repaired knee, so they went with Cousins instead.

Now with the Panthers, Bridgewater made his first-career start inside U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday. Unfortunately for the former Vikings quarterback, his old team and Cousins got the best of him.

Bridgewater ended up throwing for 267 yards, one touchdown, and one interception while Cousins threw for 307 yards, three touchdowns, and no picks.

Head-to-head, Cousins got the best of Bridgewater. Sunday’s results should also give Minnesota reassurance that they made the right decision during the 2018 offseason.

Bridgewater is a talented quarterback, but he’s not as skilled as someone like Cousins. Even though the Vikings’ current starting signal-caller has plenty of flaws, the team still made the right call to sign him in 2018 instead of bringing back Bridgewater.
