Kris Boyd – CB

Kris Boyd is a player who just can’t catch a break lately. The guy actually hasn’t been playing all that bad, but he just can’t make the big plays that are there for the taking.

Against the Jaguars, Boyd had a chance to make a huge interception early. Jacksonville quarterback Mike Glennon threw an errant pass and the Vikings corner came flying in.

Boyd was actually trying to come up and cover the receiver and when he saw the ball come, he stopped and tried to make the grab. Instead of coming down with it though,  the ball bounced off his hand and into the arms of Jaguars receiver Laviska Shenault for a touchdown.

This was the second missed interception Boyd has had recently. He had a chance to seal a Minnesota victory against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 11, but the potential pick bounced off his facemask.

It would make sense for Boyd to spend some extra time with the Jugs machine to work on his mitts this week so that maybe he’ll be able to come down with an errant Tom Brady pass this upcoming Sunday when the Vikings take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Missing an interception wasn’t the only mistake Boyd made against Jacksonville. He also badly mistimed a jump on a ball intended for massive Jaguars receiver Collin Johnson.

Boyd jumped about five seconds too soon, and when he was coming back down, the ball was just getting to Johnson. If the Minnesota corner had timed his jump a little better, then he would have easily swatted the pass down, and perhaps even come down with it in his hands.

Boyd has gotten himself in good position in coverage during the last few weeks. He just needs to make the plays when they are there for the taking, as his mistakes have resulted in big plays for the Vikings‘ opponents.
