Which non-playoff Minnesota Vikings teams should be regarded as the best?

With a 6-7 record heading into Week 15, the Minnesota Vikings are currently in danger of missing out on a spot in this season’s playoffs.

It’s actually impressive that the Vikings are even still in the hunt for a postseason berth considering how they began the year by losing five of their first six games. But Minnesota was able to fix some of their early problems and now they’ve actually got a shot to complete an impressive turnaround.

If the Vikings end up missing the postseason, however, it will be the fourth time since the team hired Mike Zimmer back in 2014. For a franchise that has championship aspirations every year, being left on the outside of this season’s playoffs would still be a disappointment despite the fact that they were able to recover from a 1-5 start.

There’s no question that this year’s team in Minnesota is full of talent. Dalvin Cook, Justin Jefferson, and Adam Thielen are all among the NFL leaders in a number of statistical categories while Harrison Smith and Eric Kendricks have continued to perform at a high level on the defensive side of the ball.

When looking back at some of the Vikings teams that missed the playoffs in the past, which ones were the most talented and successful? Which teams from Minnesota’s past should be regarded as the best despite failing to qualify for the postseason?
