Have Bertolet kick

The Vikings signed Taylor Bertolet to the practice squad after their kicker Dan Bailey melted down against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers a few weeks ago.

Bailey missed every kick he attempted during that game and in the contest before that, he missed the majority of his kicks as well. The guy has been struggling badly this season and it wouldn’t be surprising if he didn’t return to the Vikings in 2021.

Knowing that they might be in the market for a new kicker next year, Minnesota might as well begin that process this week and give Bertolet a live-action tryout.

He hasn’t been the most accurate kicker during his football career, having only hit 66.1 percent of his field-goal attempts in college and he was inconsistent during his time in the AAF. He does possess a pretty strong leg and he must have shown the Vikings something in order for them to sign him to their practice squad.

Minnesota already knows that Bailey probably isn’t a long term solution and they need to find out if Bertolet is or if he has the potential to be.

The Vikings should let him handle the kicking duties this Sunday so they can either scratch him off the list or keep him around for the preseason and allow him to battle it out with Bailey or another free-agent kicker this summer.
