With a Vikings loss
A loss to Detroit would leave the Minnesota Vikings with a 6-10 record. While that would be extremely disappointing considering the talent on the team’s roster, it would be great for those hoping for the best possible draft pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
With a loss, Minnesota’s pick would land anywhere between 9th and 12th. Nine is the best possible pick the Vikings can get, but it is a highly unlikely scenario. There are some interesting situations that can cause some major results.
Here is how the team can earn each possible pick between nine and 13 if Minnesota gets beat by the Lions.
Pick 9
- A lot of wins. This highly unlikely scenario involves the Broncos, Chargers, Cowboys, Football Team, and Panthers all being victorious in Week 17,
Pick 11
- Chargers and Cowboys. If San Diego beats Kansas City and Dallas beats the Giants in Week 17, those teams would move behind Minnesota in the draft order.
Pick 13
- A lot of losses. Broncos, Chargers, Cowboys, and Panthers all lose their games and the NFC East runner ups have a weaker strength of schedule.
Much of the order will rely on the outcome of the NFC East divisional race and the strength of schedule for any tiebreakers. Picks 10 and 12 will be a combination of tiebreakers and wins by teams surrounding Minnesota in the standings. Since those numbers could change significantly in the final week, those are something to allow to unfold as the games finish.
