The former Minnesota Vikings pass rusher has been very active on Twitter recently.

Few players have made as big of an impact on the defensive side of the ball for the Minnesota Vikings during the last 20 years than Everson Griffen.

Griffen was promoted to be one of the Vikings’ two starting defensive ends in 2014 after spending his first few years with the team as a situational pass rusher, and he certainly made the most of his increase in playing time.

During his first four seasons as a starter for Minnesota, the veteran defensive end racked up 43.5 sacks, 101 quarterback hits, and seven forced fumbles. Griffen made life miserable for opposing quarterbacks during this stretch of time.

Since the end of the 2020 regular season, the former Vikings pass rusher has made it obvious that he is interested in a reunion with his old team. Griffen has taken to Twitter and Instagram on an almost daily basis to express his desire to return to Minnesota in 2021.

He recently got himself in a bit of hot water with one of his tweets though after he criticized current Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins. Griffen later deleted the tweet and then apologized for his remarks about Cousins.

On Monday, the former Vikings defensive end continued to apologize on Twitter for ripping Cousins. This time, however, Griffen seemed to reveal something else.

In this apology post, the veteran pass rusher mentions that he’s “getting some help,” and “checking (himself) in.” Griffen hasn’t provided any other details on what he meant, so it’s unclear what exactly he’s currently going through.

Could his recent behavior on Twitter be related to some of the mental health issues he was dealing with back in 2018 that forced him to miss a few games? Sure, it’s possible. But we won’t know for sure until Griffen or a reliable source reveals what has been going on with him recently.

He hasn’t posted anything on his Twitter since Monday afternoon, which actually seems pretty significant since it’s felt like he’s been sending out at least 30 tweets per day since the end of the season. So maybe Griffen has decided to step back for a bit to focus on improving his mental health.

If this actually is the case, then hopefully he is able to get things back on track and return to the field for the 2021 season.
