Which free agents should the Minnesota Vikings stay away from this year?
Compared to the changes the Minnesota Vikings experienced during the 2020 offseason, these next few months will likely be much different for the purple and gold.
Last year, the Vikings ended their relationships with a number of notable players that included Stefon Diggs, Everson Griffen, Linval Joseph, Xavier Rhodes, Trae Waynes, and Mackensie Alexander. This offseason, the majority of Minnesota’s core on offense and defense is expected to remain intact.
This doesn’t mean the Vikings won’t be turning to free agency to try and improve their roster this year though. They probably just won’t be targeting any of the top free agents that are expected to be available when the new league year begins in March.
Minnesota also isn’t expected to have a ton of money to spend in 2021 anyway. With most anticipating the salary cap to decrease by more than $15 million this year, the Vikings will need to part with some of their highest-paid players just to avoid being over the cap when the new league year begins.
When Minnesota is eventually able to clear up enough cap space and possibly bring in some new faces, who are some of the free agents they should stay far, far away from?
