6 realistic free agents the Vikings could sign in 2021
By Adam Patrick
Chris Thompson – RB
- Age: 30
- 2020 Team: Jacksonville Jaguars
A change-of-pace back who also has kick returning experience, Chris Thompson could be someone the Vikings bring if they don’t re-sign Ameer Abdullah this offseason.
Thompson has a history of being an excellent receiver out of the backfield and this was especially the case when he and current Minnesota quarterback Kirk Cousins were members of the Washington Football Team.
With Cousins throwing him passes in 2016 and 2017, the veteran running back accumulated 1,509 total yards, 88 catches, and 11 touchdowns.
Chris Conley – WR
- Age: 28
- 2020 Team: Jacksonville Jaguars
For the past few seasons, the Vikings have signed some underwhelming free-agent wide receivers like Tajae Sharpe, Jordan Taylor, and Kendall Wright. None of them have really worked out for Minnesota, but Chris Conley is someone the team should have a little more insight on thanks to a recent addition to their coaching staff.
Former Jacksonville receivers coach Keenan McCardell is now holding the same position with the Vikings. McCardell coached Conley for the past two seasons and it resulted in him finishing each campaign with at least 40 catches, 470 receiving yards, and two touchdowns.
Conley could be a guy who can settle right in as Minnesota’s third receiver behind Adam Thielen and Justin Jefferson.
