The Vikings didn’t bring in a ton of players in free agency last year, but they did attempt to upgrade their wide receiver corps by signing, Tajae Sharpe, formerly of the Tennessee Titans.

The signing appeared to make sense at the time. Minnesota had just traded away Stefon Diggs and they were looking to add a veteran presence to the team to help replace his production. Sharpe was a cheap option who had great size at 6-foot-2 and 194 pounds.

He was seen as having some upside as he was still young and he played primarily in a run-heavy offense during his tenure with the Titans.

Later, Minnesota drafted Justin Jefferson and that pretty much put an end to Sharpe’s run with the club.  He was only active for four games in 2020 and saw just three targets with no receptions.

The Vikings couldn’t have foreseen Jefferson’s quick growth and instant impact, and if they did, they probably wouldn’t’ have bothered bringing Sharpe in. Minnesota finally parted ways with Sharpe toward the end of the 2020 season, and he was later signed to the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad.

Sharpe didn’t work out with the Vikings, but the signing made plenty of sense at the time. Down the road, fans will be hard-pressed to remember his brief stint with the club.
