Klint Kubiak spoke to the media on Tuesday for the first time as the Minnesota Vikings new offensive coordinator.

During the last few offseasons, Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer has placed a heavy emphasis on continuity when it comes to the people in charge of running the team’s offense.

With Klint Kubiak officially being named the Vikings‘ new offensive coordinator on Tuesday, the team is preparing to run an offense with the same basic principles for the third-straight season.

By keeping the same offensive scheme, Minnesota’s players can now focus on improving aspects of the system that they struggled with during the 2020 season instead of learning an entirely new offense.

Klint Kubiak shares his thoughts on becoming the Minnesota Vikings newest offensive coordinator

Shortly after his promotion to offensive coordinator was announced on Tuesday, Kubiak held a virtual press conference with some members of the local Twin Cities media.

He was asked about what the Vikings offense could look like moving forward with him in charge and it’s clear he knows the scheme could use a bit of modernization.

"“If we don’t evolve, then we’ll be left in the dust. [You’re] always trying to find ways to evolve your scheme and try to make yourself less predictable. This time of year is a heavy self-scout time of year [in addition to] studying other teams. We don’t want to be rigid, we want to be open to growth just so we can produce on Sunday.”"

So far, Kubiak is saying what Minnesota fans want to hear. Vikings fans are completely aware that the team’s offense was an above-average unit in 2020. But they also know that there were times during the past season when the offense was easily predictable far too often.

With Kubiak being just 33-years-old, most are hoping that he will add some modern elements to Minnesota’s offense while also continuing to utilize what the unit did well in 2020.

A key factor in this actually happening will be how much control Zimmer gives to Kubiak. The Vikings new offensive coordinator can say he’s going to help the unit evolve all he wants, but it won’t matter if Zimmer doesn’t approve of any possible changes.
