Which free-agent tight ends might the Minnesota Vikings target in 2021?

There appears to be growing friction between the Minnesota Vikings and Kyle Rudolph. The experienced tight end was far from happy about the way he was utilized last season and there is also the small matter of some major financial implications that come with the player in 2021.

This might lead the Vikings to explore trade possibilities for the former Notre Dame star, who has been a prolific contributor in Minnesota since arriving in the league as a second-round pick back in 2011.

A parting of the ways might be the best possible solution for all parties concerned this year, and if Rudolph did move on to pastures new, it would not only leave a gaping hole on the field, but within the locker room as well.

The Vikings still have high hopes for Irv Smith Jr., who failed to live up to the lofty expectations many put on his shoulders in 2020 following an outstanding rookie campaign. His athleticism cannot be questioned, but whether he is ready to assume the No. 1 position on the depth chart remains to be seen.

Minnesota is expected to be up against it from a salary-cap standpoint this offseason. So it’s unlikely they’re going to be major players in free agency unless some serious sacrifices are made.

However, if they manage to free-up the necessary funds, then who are some of the free-agent tight ends the Vikings might want to take a close look at in the coming weeks?
